Job Description

 

About MSF

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF Belgium) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid in more than 70 countries to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.

 

The Main Purpose of the Position

Prepare, provide and present health education sessions to the population/patients according MSF principles and values in order to promote health information through health measures and hygiene conditions as well as provide information about MSF activities in order to facilitate access to healthcare.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare material and deliver health education sessions, messages and topics addressed to different populations regarding hygiene, diseases and prevention.
  • Ensure all the patients and caretakers are well informed, according to protocols, about health related issues and services provided.
  • Monitor health situation and living conditions of the population by conducting nutritional screening, collecting information related to food security, checking vaccination status of children, looking actively for any defaulters in programs that require this type of research, collecting information on number of people arriving or leaving the community, births and deaths in the community, etc.
  • Identify people with medical problems, contact with medical team and report for immediate transfer if needed. He/she has to inform to the line manager about any problem encountered (population, equipment, material…).
  •  Report to line manager of all results of screening and visits on a regular basis.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • MSF is an independent, neutral and impartial organisation that is providing quality medical care free of charge regardless of the ethnic origin of the patients, so to both local and internally displaced population. We ensure that our staff are aware and respect the cultural differences of our patients and colleagues working together.
  • Currently MSF Belgium is providing most needed medical care in Afar and SNNP regions targeting host communities and internally displaced people. Currently MSF is opening a project in South Omo focusing on addressing the most medical needs of visceral leishmaniasis (also known as Kala Azar) and mobile clinics in the most affected areas. As such MSF aims to contribute on on the reduction of mortality and morbidity of this treatable disease and other morbidities like Malaria, malnutrition, diarrheal diseases, respiratory tract infections to the hard to reach areas.

Job Requirements

 

Required Qualification and Work Experience

Education: Essential Literacy. An internal MSF training on health messages will be necessary.

Language: Local language is compulsory.
