Duties and responsibilities
The intern will report to the Director of Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resource Management Division (TCND) and any other staff as may be assigned by the Director The science, technology, and innovation work of the Economic Commission for Africa is led by the Technology and Innovation Section (TIS) and encompasses:
a) policy research and analysis;
b) technical support to member states and their institutions; and
c) consensus building and advocacy. As part of that effort, ECA launched the Alliance of Entrepreneurial Universities in Africa and a continental platform for problem solving called the Origin Research and Innovation Hub. As such, the successful candidates will contribute towards ongoing research on emerging technologies and create awareness among African universities, private and public entities to participate in the Alliance and Origin.
The successful candidates will help:
• Create a dataset of members of the Alliance of Entrepreneurial Universities including their contacts and key resources
• Create a dataset of existing and emerging startups at universities and innovation hubs that may benefit from coaching, mentoring, financing and technologies among others
• Researching and inviting guest speakers for the Alliance and Origin
• Designing and sharing content with members of the two networks
• Keep members informed of ongoing activities within the networks, including events, competitions, funding opportunities among others
• Participate in data collection and analysis working on emerging trends in technologies
• Assisting in workshops, panels and webinars by gathering and consolidating mailing lists, contact databases, and profiles of essential stakeholders, invitees, and participants.
• Assisting as rapporteur to capture inputs from workshops, panels and webinars for subsequent consolidation and reporting purposes.
• Documenting meeting minutes for weekly Section meetings and archiving them using template provided.

Qualifications/ special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat
