Job Summary

Pastoralist Concern (PC) and its partners, has been granted the project which will guarantee access to child protection services sensitive to gender and age, to services in response to Sexual and Gender based Violence and to risk mitigation measures through the coverage of basic needs of the population displaced by the effects of drought and host communities. The GBV Prevention officer will oversee the overall day to day GBV issues and response interventions, including case management/psychosocial support, community mobilization for GBV concerns, capacity building and coordination with other sectors and actors in Awber and Wuchale woredas of Somali region.

Job Description:
  • To Identification, registration and verification of affected women, adolescents and girls
  • To be engaged on the Distribution of cash to cover emergency humanitarian needs
  • Handling Post distribution evaluation questionnaires distribution and collection
  • Engagement and mobilization of key government officials, Coordination with the community, and protection cluster
  • Collect information to produce advocacy materials and to collect data from the context
  • Conduct mapping and security audit of existing SGBV services
  • Strengthening of community mechanisms and safe spaces for the protection of women and adolescents and girls
  • Taking the lead on the Selection of appropriate beneficiaries, distribution of dignity kits and solar lanterns
  • Participate on the Strengthening of the Complaints Mechanism for Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
  • Engage actively on the Production of audiovisual materials on the humanitarian crisis aggravated by the drought
  • Strengthen community-based mechanisms for the protection of women and girls
  • Establish / Strengthen Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) feedback and complaint mechanism
  • Conduct community awareness sessions on SGBV awareness and prevention, rights of displaced people especially women and children.
  • And any other task as requested by the supervisor

Management Location: Jigjiga field office with frequent travel to AWBER and Wuchale woredas

Career Level: Mid-Level (3-5 years’ experience)

Employment Type: Temporary with possible extension


Job Requirements:

  • MA degree or BA/BSc degree in health, social work, sociology, psychology, gender, legal or other relevant fields from recognized institution
  • For MA degree 1-2 years of experience in GBV response, psychological support, social work, human rights, protection or related areas; and for BA/BSc degree 3 years of experience in the above-mentioned fields is required.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experiences in providing trainings and presentation for diverse audience
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the pastoral community context
  • Positive attitude towards gender equality and strong commitment to support multi-sectoral GBV response interventions.
  • Previous experience or willingness/readiness to live and travel in a hardship environment
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English and Somali language is a must.
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting deadlines in changing situations
  • Experience of working with local partners including local authorities
