We are legally registered to work in Ethiopia (Reg. 5164) as a National NGO and as an INGO in South Sudan (Reg. 4178), Somalia (Reg. NGOD/Moifar0422/022), and Kenya (OP.218/051/22-400/12732); registration in Yemen is in process. We are currently seeking an experienced Midwife Nurse to join our mission-driven organization.

 

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, the Midwife Nurse will play a vital role in providing comprehensive reproductive, maternal, and newborn healthcare (RMNH) services to the refugee population and host community in camp.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct prenatal assessments, monitor fetal development, and provide education and counseling to pregnant women.
  • Assist with deliveries, including normal vaginal deliveries and managing complications within your scope of practice.
  • Provide immediate postpartum care to mothers and newborns.
  • Initiate breastfeeding and support mothers with lactation difficulties.
  • Identify and manage potential maternal and newborn health problems.
  • Administer essential vaccinations and medications to mothers and newborns.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients.
  • Participate in health education sessions for the refugee community, focusing on reproductive health, antenatal care, and newborn care practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with other healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and community health workers, to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay abreast of best practices in midwifery care.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for technical and line managers.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

 

Education: BA or College Diploma in midwife nursing from an accredited institution, with an active COC (Certificate of Competence) and license to practice in Ethiopia.
Experience: Minimum 2 years for BA and 3 years for Diploma.

Job Summary

The Druggist will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe management of medications within the refugee camps. Working under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, he/she will be responsible for various tasks related to medication inventory, dispensing, and record-keeping within a refugee-camp setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, store, and securely manage essential and non-essential medications according to national, international, and humanitarian guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication inventory records using a computerized system and manual methods.
  • Prepare medications for dispensing based on prescriptions written by qualified healthcare providers.
  • Dispense medications to patients, ensuring proper dosage and medication education.
  • Monitor medication expiry dates and conduct regular stock checks to prevent stock-outs or overstocking.
  • Assist healthcare providers with medication selection and answer basic medication-related questions from patients.

3. Position: Public Health Officer

 

Job Description

Duty Station: Gambella Region (Jewi, Nguyyieel, Luak Dong, and Terkidi Refugee Camps)

Reports to: Health and Nutrition Coordinator

The Public Health Officer will play a critical role in safeguarding the health and well-being of the refugee population in camps. He/she will provide primary healthcare services, manage health programs, and promote disease prevention within the camp setting. Working under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, he/she will participate in public-health initiatives, strengthen health systems, and ensure the delivery of essential public-health services within the camp.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide primary healthcare services, including diagnosing and treating common illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions.
  • Deliver essential preventive healthcare services, including childhood immunizations, prenatal care, and family-planning counseling.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments to identify public-health priorities within the refugee camp.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor effective public-health programs focusing on communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.
  • Participate in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and implementation of appropriate control measures.
  • Manage and analyze health data to identify trends, monitor program effectiveness, and inform decision-making.
  • Develop and deliver health-education sessions for the refugee community to promote healthy behaviors and disease prevention.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of health-education programs promoting healthy behaviors and disease prevention.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in health and nutrition program implementation, preferably in humanitarian settings.
  • Experience working in UNHCR-funded and refugee health programs is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of health service delivery in refugee camps and emergency-response settings.
  • Excellent data management, monitoring, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging environments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with experience in stakeholder coordination.

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technologist/Technician plays a crucial role in supporting patient diagnosis and treatment. He/she will perform a comprehensive range of laboratory examinations (hematology, parasitology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, etc.), collect, process, analyze, and interpret patient specimens, and adhere to strict quality-assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive range of clinical laboratory examinations, including hematology, parasitology, urinalysis, and clinical microscopy.
  • Adhere to quality-assurance and quality-control procedures in performing all testing.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of laboratory results through meticulous quality-assurance and control processes.
  • Maintain peak performance of laboratory equipment by performing inspections, preventive maintenance, calibrations, and proficiency testing.
  • Check specimens for condition, acceptability, and appropriateness; note exceptions.
  • Manage reagents: procurement initiation, inventory control, proper storage, and accuracy verification.
  • Implement and manage a laboratory-information management system (LIMS) to track and document procedures and results.
  • Correlate clinical information and/or previous lab results, reporting discrepancies.
  • Write and update laboratory standard-operating procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Report all critical values promptly to the physician and charge nurse.
  • Refrain from reporting patient results unless quality-control data are within accepted parameters.

Job Requirements

Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution/university, with an active certificate/license to practice in Ethiopia.
Experience: 2 years for BA degree or 3 years for Diploma.

Job Summary

The Nurse will conduct patient triage and provide essential medical care, including administering medications and treatments as prescribed. He/she will be responsible for outpatient and inpatient services, assisting in nursing-care planning, and maintaining accurate patient records. Additionally, he/she will collaborate closely with physicians, offer support during comprehensive health assessments, and provide clear instructions to patients on maintaining their well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient triage, promptly addressing needs or relaying detailed messages to the appropriate physician.
  • Assess patient condition; set IVs; update patient records; provide emotional support; and/or educate patients on managing illness or injury.
  • Participate regularly in outpatient and inpatient clinics.
  • Assist in planning nursing care (bed making, patient positioning, feeding, bed bath, mouth care, etc.).
  • Participate in daily rounds, recording and reporting progress in nursing notes.
  • Develop nursing-care plans that meet individualized patient needs.
  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Accurately observe, report, and record any complications.
  • Observe the “five rights” (right medication, right patient, right route, right dose, right time).
  • Communicate accurately, in oral or written form, with all work-related staff.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of clients through proper implementation of nursing procedures.
  • Follow Universal Precautions and Infection-Control guidelines.
  • Maintain attendance and observe working hours, breaks, and sign-out times.
  • Manage diagnostic-results retrieval, ensure physician review, and communicate results to patients per clinic guidelines.
  • Collaborate with physicians in clinic settings, providing support as needed.
  • Offer clear, comprehensive instructions on maintaining good health during patient interactions.
  • Participate in medical rounds with physicians or other medical staff as requested.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in clinical nursing from an accredited institution, with an active COC (Certificate of Competence) and license to practice in Ethiopia, plus 4 years of practical experience.
  • OR a BSc in nursing from an accredited institution, with an active license to practice in Ethiopia, plus 2 years of practical experience.
