Introduction to Mastercard Foundation Scholarships 2025/2026 at Makerere University

Are you dreaming of studying at one of Africa’s top universities but worried about the cost? Makerere University, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering fully funded scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year!

What’s on Offer?

• 190 Undergraduate Scholarships
• 11 Master’s Scholarships

These scholarships are available for:

• Ugandan nationals
• Refugees
• Students with disabilities
• Internally displaced youth
• International students

Who Can Apply?

For Undergraduate Scholarships:

To qualify, you must:

1. Apply for admission at Makerere University (main campus) under the private sponsorship scheme for 2025/2026.
2. Meet at least one of the following:
   • Completed high school in an African country
   • Hold a diploma with at least second class/credit
   • Passed Makerere University’s mature entry exams in 2023 or 2024
3. Be financially needy and not receiving any other scholarship.
4. Be 28 years or younger (or 32 for refugees, students with disabilities, or internally displaced).
5. Not have completed any undergraduate degree before.
6. Show leadership skills or community service involvement.
7. Refugees must have valid refugee identification.
8. Apply to a prioritized program under the Mastercard Foundation (check the application form for a full list).

For Master’s Scholarships:

You must:

1. Apply for a Master’s degree at Makerere University (main campus) for 2025/2026.
2. Have completed an undergraduate degree in an African country.
3. Be financially disadvantaged and not receiving another scholarship.
4. Be 35 years or younger (or 40 for refugees or students with disabilities).
5. Show leadership and/or community service.
6. Not be currently studying or have already completed a Master’s degree.
7. Refugees must have official refugee documentation.
8. Apply to a prioritized Master’s program listed in the application form.
