Introduction
The World Health Organization (WHO) invites applications for its pioneering online training focused on the “Urban Health Capacities Assessment and Response Resource Kit.” This initiative aims to enhance urban health by equipping practitioners and facilitators with essential tools and strategies to foster cross-sectoral collaboration and address urban health challenges effectively.
Training Overview
The training will be delivered online over four consecutive weeks, specifically on 13, 20, 27 June, and 4 July 2025. Participants are expected to dedicate 1.5 hours per session, plus an additional 4 hours for offline preparation and assignments.
Who Should Apply?
Cross-sectoral Teams:
- Teams of 3-4 urban practitioners from at least two different sectors such as:
- Built environment and infrastructure
- Health and social services
- Environment and climate resilience
- Safety and security
- Food systems and nutrition
- Economy and employment
- Members should represent either public or private institutions, including government agencies or civil society organizations, and share a common urban health goal.
Individual Facilitators:
- Experienced facilitators who manage intersectoral processes such as stakeholder dialogues, joint planning, or inter-agency collaborations.
- Candidates should have established relationships with local governments and work within local government bodies, academia, private sector entities, or civil society organizations focusing on urban health.
Background and Significance
Rapid urbanization, climate change, and socio-economic disparities pose significant health challenges in urban areas. WHO’s Urban Health Capacities Assessment and Response Resource Kit addresses these by helping practitioners identify and bridge capacity gaps, fostering intersectoral collaborations, and developing comprehensive urban health strategies. By emphasizing a holistic, collaborative approach, the Resource Kit enables professionals across sectors to align their efforts effectively towards common health goals.
Training Objectives
Primary Objective:

- Develop a skilled cohort proficient in utilizing the Resource Kit.
- Enhance participants’ skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating urban health challenges.
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange among urban health professionals.

Participants will explore essential urban health capacities, including:
- Informed decision-making, monitoring, and evaluation: Leveraging data to inform policy.
- Policy coherence and multi-sectoral governance: Enhancing collaborative governance mechanisms.
- Sustainable financing and resource mobilization: Securing funding and resources strategically.
- Partnerships and participation: Strengthening stakeholder and community engagement.

Training Format and Commitment
- Duration: 4 online sessions, each 1.5 hours.
- Additional Preparation: Approximately 4 hours of offline work.
- Delivery Method: Zoom, featuring expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and collaborative exercises.
- Engagement Requirement: Full attendance and active participation.
- Certification: Awarded upon completion of all requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
Professional Background:
- Policy-makers in public health or related urban health sectors.
- City practitioners influencing public health, transport, housing, infrastructure, economy, and other relevant areas.
Experience and Qualifications:
- At least 5 years professional experience or 3 years with an advanced degree.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum.
- Experience in multi-sectoral projects and processes.
- Demonstrable interest and expertise in urban health.
- Proficiency in English.
Team Applications:
- Preference is given to teams comprising 3-4 members from diverse sectors or organizations.organizations

- Explain your key strengths and skills relevant to urban health capacity assessment.
