Job description

 

Position: Junior ResearcherPublic Health or Health informatics

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.

The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Research (MNTD) Division of AHRI has secured a grant from the European Union in collaboration with the Institute Pasteur Paris (IPP), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and other collaborators for the project entitled Serological Testing And Treatment For P. Vivax: From A Cluster-Randomised Trial In Ethiopia And Madagascar To A Mobile-Technology Supported Intervention-PvSTATEM”. The research project sites will be in the Oromia Region, West Arsi Zone, Shashemen Zuria Wereda, Negele Arsi Wereda and Shalla Wereda.

Therefore, the MNTD Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic Junior Researchers (Public Health or Health informatics) to join our vibrant team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct data collection, data entry and data cleaning activities via REDCap and other software.
  • Prompt response to the requests from project coordinator, manager, local data collectors and the field staff·
  • Responsible for accurately completing records and reports from field and support in coordination of data collection.
  • Responsible to properly handle CRF’s and consent forms and adhere to data quality protocols.
  • Preparing project specific data collection instruments, data handling and sharing platforms.
  • Maintain data integration, sharing, analysis and quality assurance of project data
  • Update the data team about a project data status when ever requested and report on time with all the necessary data qualities.
  • Performs data cleaning and make sure the completeness of the collected data
  • Be able to comprehend any urgent requests and tasks by the PI and data managers with in the requested time frame.
  • Availability for Flexible Working Hours, the nature of the research activities may occasionally require working beyond standard office hours.
  • Willingness to work on weekends and public holidays as needed, particularly during time-sensitive data collection phases, fieldwork, clinical trials, or urgent project deadlines.
  • Availability to work outside of regular business hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, or late nights, depending on the operational demands of the project

 

 

Job requirements

 

Qualifications

  • BSc Degree in Public Health or Health informatics fields from a recognized university.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female applicants
  • Zero year work experience
  • Willingness to travel to and work in rural and remote field settings for long period of time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills of English and Afan Oromo languages.

Other Competencies

  • Experience on data management tools such as ODK, REDCap, KoboToolbox etc is an advantage
  • Data analysis skill with R and STATA and project data monitoring is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in research methodology and research designs.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill
  • Getting a Consent and Patient Interview
  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
  • Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators.

Duty station: West Arsi Zone, selected Woredas (Shashemene Zuria, Negele Arsi and Shalla Woreda), Oromia Region, Ethiopia

Number required: 1 (One)

Salary: ETB 10,386.00

Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
