Introduction

Are you passionate about using data science to tackle pressing global health challenges? The DReaM Program’s Global Health Data Science Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop cutting-edge skills, and contribute to meaningful research—all while working remotely.

This fellowship is designed for enthusiastic learners and professionals who want to deepen their expertise in health data science. Over the course of a year, you’ll engage in practical training, from data collection and cleaning to advanced analysis and visualization, using modern tools like R, Python, KoboToolbox, and REDCap.

What You’ll Learn

As a fellow, you’ll:

• Master data types, cleaning, and visualization techniques.
• Gain proficiency in programming with R and/or Python.
• Conduct descriptive, inferential, and multivariate analyses, and explore machine learning.
• Develop skills in data structuring, integration, and anonymization, including big data concepts.
• Create dynamic reports using R Markdown, RShiny, or Python Dash and present findings to stakeholders.

Who Should Apply?

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, medicine, biology, data science, statistics, or a related field.
• Intermediate proficiency in R or Python (basic knowledge of Tidyverse packages in R is a plus).
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
• Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas effectively.
• Access to a reliable computer and stable internet connection.
• Familiarity with basic software tools like Microsoft Office.
• Ability to dedicate time to sessions, assignments, and peer collaboration.

Final Deliverable

By the end of the fellowship, you’ll complete a comprehensive analytical project, including:

• A processed dataset.
• Detailed analyses.
• Visualized results.
• A published research paper showcasing your work.
