Report to: Nutrition, Environmental Health and Non-communicable Disease Research Directorate

Salary: 18,000

Job Description:

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) strives to address nutrition and health-related problems by conducting population-based research and contributing to the effective implementation of the Food and Nutrition Policy and Strategy in Ethiopia. To this end, the Nutrition, Environmental Health and Non-communicable Disease Research Directorate of EPHI in collaboration with the World Food Program, is planning to conduct research on baseline assessment of strengthen the nutrition sensitivity of social protection project in Ethiopia (SNASSP)

School Feeding programs and the Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) play vital roles in building resilience and addressing malnutrition among vulnerable households and children. School Feeding initiatives provide meals to children during school hours, that support healthy growth and cognitive development. Beyond food plate, it yields significant returns in key areas, including education and gender equality, health and nutrition, social protection, as well as local economies and agriculture.

Similarly, PSNP supports effort to combat food insecurity and malnutrition. The PSNP’s focus on building community assets and resilience that further strengthens its impact, ensuring that households can sustainably improve their food security and nutritional status over time. These initiatives complement each other in addressing the multifaceted challenges of malnutrition across the country.

To strengthen these programs Nutrition-Sensitive, gender-transformative packages will be piloted within the SFP and PSNP platform in Afar and Oromia regions. Therefore, EPHI will collect baseline data in the intervention areas before the implementation of a program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Identify selected kebeles, schools’ households to be surveyed in the selected woredas.
  2. Develop a plan for the household visit and interviews and coordinate field workers schedule at the selected kebeles
  3. Ensure field workers have all the necessary survey supplies and equipment.
  4. Ensure all the necessary survey supplies and forms are collected before leaving to field and each day before going out to the field for data collection
  5. Supervise daily data collection of the field workers
  6. Ensure field workers follow instructions
  7. Assist field workers in obtaining informed consent from the study participants
  8. Collect facility level data and facilitate qualitative data collection
  9. Track the number of interviews completed each day
  10. Check and approve the data collected by the field workers
  11. Ensure the field worker sends data on daily basis
  12. Provide feedback to field workers and answer their questions
  13. Help resolve any problems that field workers might have in finding the selected respondents, understanding the questionnaire or dealing with difficult respondents.
  14. Report progress and problems to field coordinator, project manager and local authorities
  15. Should be able to take on additional responsibilities assigned by coordinator

 

 

Job requirements

Master’s degree in Applied Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Public Health, or other health-related disciplines from a recognized academic institution, along with at least two years of professional experience and previous survey supervisor

Language:

For Oromia region; Speaking and reading skills in Afaan Oromo and English and,

for Afar region; Speaking and reading skills in either in Afarigna or Amharic and English are mandatory.

Duty station/location: The selected candidate will be assigned to the study location in either Oromia or Afar region. Applicants are required to indicate their preferred region in their application letter based on the language requirement.
