Job Description:

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), in collaboration with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), is implementing a project titled “Establishment of a Surveillance System on Food Adulteration and Food Hygiene Practices in Major Agro-Food Processing Industries, Food Markets, and Catering Service Establishments to Improve Food Safety Status in Ethiopia.”

As part of this surveillance study on food adulteration and food safety, various food samples and qualitative data will be collected from nationally representative sampling sites for laboratory analysis. The study will focus on locally available raw and processed food items, including cow milk, butter, honey, injera, bread, wheat flour, ground coffee powder, shiro flour, and berbere powder.

We are looking for qualified data collectors to assist with this fieldwork. Applicants should meet the following requirements:

Responsibilities:

  1. All data collectors must spend the entire data collection period traveling within the designated sampling areas.
  2. All data collectors are responsible for identifying the sampling areas and determining the types of samples to be collected.
  3. All data collectors must ensure that the specified samples are accessible in the selected sampling areas.
  4. All data collectors should be well-informed about the types of samples to be collected and the required quantities.
  5. All data collectors must accurately record all necessary information about the sampling locations and collected samples according to the provided labeling guidelines.
  6. All data collectors must ensure that samples are properly collected, processed, packed, and transported under appropriate storage conditions.
  7. All data collectors must confirm that the correct type and quantity of samples, along with the required information, have arrived at their designated storage location at EPHI and are properly recorded in the sample receiving log sheet.
  8. All data collectors must meet or communicate with their supervisor daily to provide updates on collected food samples, share information, and report any challenges encountered during data collection.
  9. All data collectors must maintain the highest level of honesty and integrity throughout the process.
  10. All data collectors may be assigned additional tasks by the project supervisor or coordinator as needed.

 

 

Job requirements

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, Food Science and Post-Harvest Technology, Food Engineering, Food Process Engineering, or Human Nutrition, with at least one year of experience in food sample collection, analysis, or research in Food Science and Nutrition.

Language: Proficiency in the local language is an advantage.
