Background
The Department of Psychiatry at Addis Ababa University has a project: ‘SCOPE’ (Studying the Contexts of recent Onset Psychoses in Ethiopia to develop interventions to improve outcomes). In SCOPE we are carrying out a large epidemiological study of people with recent-onset psychosis in rural, urban and homeless populations. Findings will then feed into participatory development and evaluation of interventions to increase early detection and better outcomes for people with psychosis in Ethiopia. SCOPE is working in the Gurage Zone, Oromia Region and Addis Ababa. As part of SCOPE, we are offering one full-time postdoctoral fellowship.
Area of work: Mental health epidemiology and intervention development
Deliverables
- Contribute to SCOPE research activities, data analysis and write-up of publications.
- Manualized family intervention for people with psychosis.
- Drafted protocol for piloting of family intervention.
- Draft grant application for the fellow.
- Participate actively in SCOPE meetings with overseas collaborators and in-country.
- Publish papers in reputable journals as a first author.
- Active contribution to research dissemination and uptake, including preparation of policy briefs.

Salary and benefits : Negotiable
Terms of employment: Full-time, 18 months post subject to six monthly contract renewal.
