Introduction
The Africa Healthcare Innovation Fellowship (AHIF) is a flagship initiative by InnovateHealth Africa (IHA), designed to equip young professionals with the skills, resources, and networks necessary to drive healthcare innovation across the continent.
As Africa faces an increasing demand for context-aware health interventions, technology-driven solutions, and sustainable healthcare practices, AHIF aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders who can co-create and implement innovative solutions tailored to the continent’s unique healthcare challenges.
Program Structure
The AHIF 2025 Fellowship is structured as a high-impact, hands-on program that provides participants with real-world experience and direct access to industry experts. The fellowship consists of three key phases, ensuring progressive learning and practical application.
Phase 1: The Bootcamp (8 Weeks, Online)
The journey begins with an intensive online bootcamp where fellows receive expert-led training, engage in interactive learning, and develop a strong foundation in digital health and innovation.
What to Expect:
- Live Faculty-Led Sessions – Learn from leading experts in digital health through masterclasses and Q&A sessions.
- Case Studies & Real-World Applications – Analyze successful health-tech solutions from across Africa and beyond.
- Hands-On Assignments & Projects – Work on practical digital health challenges to develop problem-solving skills.
Phase 2: The Lab & Demo Day (4 Weeks, Hybrid)
This phase is where learning meets action. Fellows who successfully complete the bootcamp will transition to the Lab Phase, where they refine, test, and validate their digital health solutions with expert mentorship.
What Happens in This Phase?
- Collaborative Innovation – Fellows work in teams to build and refine their health-tech solutions.
- Hands-On Experimentation – Receive technical guidance, feedback, and support from industry mentors.
- Demo Day – Present solutions to a panel of experts, policymakers, health organizations, and investors. Top solutions may receive incubation and acceleration opportunities.
Phase 3: Post-Fellowship Support
After completing the fellowship, participants receive continued support to help them implement their projects and advance their careers in healthcare innovation.
