Job description

 

Total Number of Field Coordinators and Supervisors Needed: 12 (See breakdown by region below.)

Number of Field Coordinators and Supervisors per Region Needed:

  • Addis Ababa: 1
  • Amhara: 3
  • Central Ethiopia: 2
  • Oromiya: 3
  • Sidama: 1
  • South Ethiopia: 2

Duration of Data Collection: One year (renewable based on performance and funding availability)

Reports to: Researcher, Associate I

Application Deadline: For five consecutive days until March 11, 2025, at 11:59 PM Addis Ababa Time.

Eligibility: Open to Ethiopian nationals only. Qualified women are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Population Council Ethiopia Country Office seeks Field Coordinators and Supervisors to support research and data collection activities across six regions in Ethiopia for an impact evaluation study on the Postpartum Family Planning Program in Ethiopia.

Since 1993, the Population Council has collaborated with the Ethiopian government, ministries, NGOs, universities, and community-based organizations to improve the lives of marginalized adolescent girls, young women, and the men and boys in their lives.

Field Coordinators and Supervisors will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of high-quality data collection efforts. They will be responsible for supervising field teams, ensuring adherence to protocols, troubleshooting challenges, and maintaining data integrity. The data collected will contribute to shaping national and global health and development policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and support field-based data collection across assigned regions.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee enumerators to ensure high-quality data collection in line with research protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Monitor daily field activities, provide guidance, and resolve field-related issues in real-time.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and research protocols throughout data collection.
  • Conduct spot checks and back-checks to verify data accuracy and consistency.
  • Liaise with local authorities and community stakeholders to facilitate smooth data collection.
  • Report on progress, challenges, and key observations to the Researcher, Associate I, regularly.
  • Ensure timely submission of collected data and troubleshoot any data inconsistencies.
  • Assist in qualitative data transcription and translation as needed.
  • Represent the Population Council professionally in the field, fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Job requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, demography, statistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in supervising field-based data collection, preferably in health, social, or demographic studies.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams of enumerators in field settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic data collection platforms (e.g., ODK, SurveyCTO, KoBoToolbox) is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of research ethics, data quality assurance, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to manage field challenges effectively.
  • Proficiency in English and at least one local language spoken in the assigned region is required.
  • Experience working with government and local stakeholders is a plus.
