Job description
Reach The Needy – Ethiopia (RTN-Ethiopia) is a child focused community based, not for profit, non-religious and discrimination free indigenous humanitarian national organization that exists to help the Deprived, Excluded and Vulnerable children become productive, confident and responsible citizens, parents and leaders of tomorrow that directly involve and contribute for the development of the country. RTN has been working different development & humanitarian programs in partnership with ChildFund and CARE Ethiopia.
RTN-Ethiopia, recently going to secure grant from UNICEF to implement an “Integrated Nutrition & ECE” projectwith the objective of enhancing the development of early childhood aged children (0-7) by integrating nutrition and early childhood education (ECE) intervention in selected Woreda of Sidama Region (Aleta Chuko) & South Ethiopia Region (Duguna-Fango & Dassenech).
Therefore, we would like to invite interested and qualified applicants for the following post.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to RTN’s Integrated Nutrition and ECE projects in Southern Ethiopia and Sidama Regions. Focusing on promoting accountability to beneficiaries with the objective of empowering communities and obtaining feedback on projects leading to improved quality and impact. The incumbent will work very closely with the Project Coordinator as well as all concerned project staff and project beneficiaries in establishing accountability mechanisms.
Provide support the implementation and management of all Nutrition services in ECE &ASR project activities at all site of the project operational areas. He/She will facilitate and participate on the project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation at the project sites, generate and assess the outputs, outcomes and impacts of program intervention and activities. He/She will have direct responsibility for IYCF, Nutrition, ECE and ASR program implementation and management in the project implementation areas.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between RTN and local beneficiaries involved in IYCF, ECE activities.
- Improving basic preventive health care at community level with emphasis health, immunization, health and nutrition services
- Strengthening of linkages and coordination mechanisms between community and the woreda health offices
- Train and support community-based volunteer health workers for the implementation of the community component of the project.
- Ensure each and every admitted child receives adequate and quality clinical and nutritional care through existing resources.
- The health and nutrition Officer will help facilitate admission of the patient at the OTP, and SC.
- Train and support the HEWs in severe acute malnutrition case management and follow-up (e.g., referral to SC) according to national guidelines.
- Ensure at all times adequately equipped and supplied with the necessary nutritional and clinical requirements – Plumpy’nut, Vitamin A, routine drugs, nutritional equipment’s, nutritional/medical stationeries, etc.
- Assisting the planning and promotion of awareness creation on nutrition and preventative health care issues in the community.
- Cascading trainings on Early Childhood Development/Education, and Women Economic Empowerment
- Work with Zonal & Woreda Health, Education and other officials to ensure all aspects of programme understood and agreed to implement the programme
- Collaborating with government and non-governmental stakeholders to ensure quality implementation and sustainability of project activities
- Follow the activities of the School feeding programme/SFP/ to run smoothly and in line with the guideline.
- Facilitate and follow Monthly Nutritional Assessment, Vit.A and deworming campaign in the program/project area.
- Reporting, regular collection of data, and addressing challenges
- Organize trainings, workshops, and learning sessions
- Lead and manage performance of project activities
- Support the technical design of project interventions and development of technical guidance and tools for office and staff at site level.
- Represent the project externally with partners, government and other agencies at woreda & regional levels
- Prepare and share quality project reports as per donor and government requirements and also the project monitoring & evaluation plan to the office
- Ensure all the organization’s project documentation is filed and organized to accountability purposes
- Ensure Project learning and achievements are documented and disseminated to stakeholders
- Ensure mid-term and final project evaluation take place.
- Ensure the project is implemented in compliance with donor/grant requirements
- Organize regular performance review meeting to assess progress but also to agree on and communicate any changes in strategy with the key project stakeholder
- Ensure adequate stakeholders consultation and participation at all stages of the project implementation
- Faster collaboration and support in the organization to develop plans for integrating ECE with other thematic areas
- Ensure RTN Safeguarding Policy and Guidelines and adhered to in project implementation
- Carry out other tasks related in consultation with the Project Coordinator to enhance the quality of projects and organizational achievements
- TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: One year Contract with the possibility of extension based on availability of fund and work performance.
- LANGUAGE ABILITY: Good communication skill in Amharic & English. Knowledge of the project implementation areas languages is needed
- SALARY: As per the organization scale.
PLACE OF WORK: One at Hawassa/Dilla and One at Dassenech
Job requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Experienced in nutrition and health program implementation –data collection and compilation, working with counterpart for lasting intervention, training of health workers, etc.
- Knowledge and experience on Early Childhood Development/Education is needed
- Prior experience of engagement with direct community members is needed
- Knowledge of local language and project site/context is needed
- Prior experience of providing participatory trainings, coaching, and mentoring is needed
- Experience working with local government and non-government stakeholders is needed
- Strong computer skills in MS Office is needed
- Strong communication skills is needed
- Experience in working on issues of vulnerable children is an advantage
- Reasonable experience in community-based programming
- Knowledge of environment and current effective practice and policy on Pre-primary and Accelerated School Readiness
- Good knowledge of donor grant and contract regulations
- Demonstrable abilities in planning, budget and reporting
- Excellent communication skills, both in written English and in face- to – face presentations.
- Ability to work in stamina
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3 years’ for BSc and 2 years for MSc experience in Health and Nutrition projects,
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Concept paper development, operational planning, budget planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, report writing;
- Proficiency in standard office software packages;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire and empower others;
- Demonstrated technical and managerial ability, sound judgment, ability to interact and work effectively with others at all levels;
- Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality, sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, transparent and participatory management.
