Introduction
The One Million Leaders Africa (OMLA) Fellowship Program is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing global challenges by empowering young leaders. With a focus on sustainability, ethics, and social justice, the program aspires to create a new wave of leaders equipped to drive positive change in their communities.
The OMLA Fellowship empowers emerging leaders and changemakers across Africa. It offers a dynamic learning experience, combining a comprehensive leadership curriculum, practical Community Development projects, and specialized training sessions. Participants will gain the skills, knowledge, and network needed to drive meaningful change in sustainability, entrepreneurship, climate action, ICT, and more.
What is OMLA?
OMLA is the flagship project of NELIS (Next Leaders’ Initiative for Sustainability), operating across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and MENA since 2022. By 2030, it aims to nurture one million next-generation leaders and social innovators , with the required skills to lead positive and sustainable change in their local communities.
The Vision and Mission
- Vision: “One World in Harmony” – To connect and inspire and empower one million young sustainability leaders by 2030.
- Mission: OML exists to create a vibrant local2global, action- focused network of NexGen leaders for sustainable and lasting change across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and MENA.
Fellowship Structure
The OMLA Fellowship comprises four comprehensive phases:
- Fellows’ Intensive Training: Selected youth undergo rigorous training based on the program’s five curriculum pillars.
- Leadership Challenge: Fellows craft project proposals, build websites for their initiatives, and present their ideas during an online exhibition called “Demo Day.”
- Graduation: Graduates gain recognition as OML leaders and access opportunities within the OMLA Alumni Community.
- Act-for-Change/OMLA Alumni Community Pro: An exclusive paid community offering advanced training, mentorship, and grant opportunities.
Five Pillars of the Curriculum
- How to Start a Social Enterprise: Equipping fellows with entrepreneurial skills.
- Writing Project Proposals and Pitches: Developing persuasive communication for social initiatives.
- Website Development: Creating an online presence to amplify project visibility.
- Leadership and Sustainability: Building the foundation of ethical and impactful leadership.
- Fundraising: Strategies to secure resources for impactful projects.
Who Can Apply?
OMLA seeks passionate individuals committed to ethical leadership and community development. Applicants must:
- Be aged 18-40.
- Be fluent in English.
- Show commitment to sustainability, ethical action and community development
- Committed to lead and mentor other youth for Positive social change and social change.
- Engaged in social/ Environmental/ sustainability areas
- Have internet access and dedication to complete the program.
