Job description

 

Background: ICAN’s educational program in IPC, Cape to Cairo, extends widely in Africa having trained more than 2000 healthcare workers on certificated programs. ICAN collaborates with several universities and organizations including WHO, ACDC, CDC- Atlanta, in Africa, Europe, and the USA in delivering innovative approaches to IPC capacity development. ICAN has been registered as an NPO since 2008. The Infection Control Africa Network (ICAN) trains professionals in infection control programmes and has developed hubs across Africa to ensure that IPC training becomes closer to various regions. Cape Town, South Africa, is the head office, and then ICAN has five different hubs: the Western Hub, Southern Hub, Eastern Hub, Central Hub, and Northern Hub. The main purpose of this position is to coordinate and oversee the delivery of training and education in IPC in the Eastern Hub regions and member countries.

Responsibilities: 

Training activities 

  • Collaborate with ministries of health, National societies, and organizations in supporting training to healthcare workers where required.
  • To participate in relevant training meetings both inside and outside Hub member organizations.
  • To work with the other Hubs training coordinators to ensure a coherent training programme and timings.
  • To participate actively in the delivery and evaluation of IPC courses offered by the Hub.
  • Identify, assign, and evaluate training facilitators in the region.
  • To identify and secure site visits and practical sessions relevant to IPC training.
  • To provide academic support to participants.
  • Ensure the Admin person is keeping a record of all IPC training activities.
  • To develop and submit a monthly report to the ICAN Hub manager, and a quarterly report to the steering committee and Executive manager on training and education programs provided by the Hub.
  • Record daily activities with attendance
  • To ensure the evaluation of the training activities including the impact on the training.
  • Should be prepared to travel outside own country to deliver training and related activities.

Course and resource development 

  • Work closely with the ICAN training team.
  • Organize and facilitate the delivery of IPC training programmes both face-to-face and on virtual platforms with the protection of ICAN intellectual property.

Marketing 

  • To invite speakers for health events and to develop event programmes.
  • To promote ICAN and ICAN courses, in collaboration with the ICAN office and training team, both internal and external levels

Finance

  • To participate in the development and management of ICAN-Hub training budgets.
  • Securing resources for IPC courses and the training programme.

Salary:

  • Salary will be $800 per month, payable by the 26th of each month with a timesheet and deliverables to the ICAN Hub Manager

Level of effort: 20 hours per week office hours for hub activities

Duration: 9 Months with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability

Duty station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Job requirements

 

Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Expertise in IPC
  • Diploma or BSc in any clinical field.
  • Certificate of training in IPC
  • Experience in IPC and related activities – Experience in training coordination would be an advantage
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office productivity software (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, email)
  • Eagerness to troubleshoot and solve complex problems that have multiple possible solutions
  • Commitment to improving the quality and rigor of training
