Job description

 

Position: Junior Researcher_ Data Science

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 530/2023 with the objectives of conducting biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, promoting and strengthening local production of pharmaceutical products and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.

The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD) Research Division is one of the departments in the institute and currently MNTD has been sponsored by PATH to conduct the Vivaction Project. This project in line with the 2021-2025 National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan of the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health and its implementing partners priorities. As such the main goal of this study is to assess how feasible it is to offer radical cure for plasmodium vivax with established and newer medications following G6PD testing across various levels of health services, with the aim of guiding potential policy changes, malaria strategies, and future implementation plans. Therefore, the MNTD Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative and energetic researchers to join our team as Junior Researchers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct data collection, data entry and data cleaning activities via REDCap and other insisted softwares.
  • Prompt response to the requests from project coordinator, manager, local data collectors and the field staff·
  • Responsible for accurately completing records and reports from field and support in coordination of data collection.
  • Responsible to handle CRF’s and adhere to data quality protocols.
  • Preparing project specific data collection instruments, data handling and sharing platforms.
  • Maintain data integration and sharing, data mining and analysis and quality assurance of project data
  • Update the data team about a project data status when ever requested and report on time with all the necessary data qualities.
  • Be able to comprehend any urgent requests and tasks by the PI and data managers with in the requested time frame.

Job requirements

 

Qualifications

  • BSc Degree in Public Health or Health informatics fields from a recognized university.
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 for male and 3:00 for female applicants
  • Zero year work experience
  • Willingness to work at the field site frequently.

Other Competencies

  • Fluency in English Language
  • Experience on data management tools such as ODK, RedCap, Kobo toll box etc is an advantage
  • Data analysis skill with R and STATA and project data monitoring with POWER Bi is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in research methodology and research designs.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skill
  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
  • Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators.

Duty station: Addis Ababa with a frequent travel to the field (study sites) and may stay for months in the field.

Number required: 2 (Two)

Salary: ETB 10,386.00

Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
