Introduction
In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, the University of Toronto is excited to announce the commencement of the 2025-2026 graduate scholarship recruitment. This incredible opportunity is open to recent alumni and graduating students from Africa Health Collaborative partner universities. The scholarship aims to support academically excellent students committed to using their education to give back to their home countries upon completing their studies.

The scholarship is exclusively available to students from the following esteemed institutions:
- Addis Ababa University
- Ashesi University
- African Institute for Mathematical Sciences
- African Leadership University
- Amref International University/Amref Health Africa
- Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology
- Moi University
- University of Cape Town
Scholarship Details

The Mastercard Foundation scholarship offers full financial coverage, which includes:
- Tuition fees
- Travel expenses
- Housing
- Food
- Books
- Other essential costs
Additionally, scholars will benefit from a comprehensive support system designed to ensure their academic success. This support includes a two-week summer orientation program, which prepares students for life in Toronto and graduate studies at the University of Toronto, while also helping them plan for their return to Africa.

Graduate Programs Offered
Up to 25 scholarships will be awarded for the following graduate programs during the 2025-2026 academic year:
- Master of Health Administration
- Master of Occupational and Environmental Health
- Master of Social and Behavioural Health Sciences
- Master of Financial Insurance
- Master of Engineering (Biomedical)
- Master of Biotechnology (starting in 2026)
Students are encouraged to choose a program of study that aligns with their career goals and their motivation to contribute to Africa’s development.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all six of the following criteria:
1. Be a citizen and currently reside in a Sub-Saharan African country.
2. Be a recent graduate (within the last five years) or a graduating student from a partner university.
3. Demonstrate academic excellence and leadership qualities.
4. Meet the academic requirements of their chosen graduate program.
5. Show a commitment to returning to Africa post-graduation to contribute to economic and social development.
6. Have not started any graduate-level studies.

Application Process
The application process is divided into three main steps:
Step One: Program Requirements
First, prospective applicants must ensure they meet the admission requirements for their chosen graduate program. Each program has specific requirements, so be sure to review them carefully.
Step Two: Scholarship Application
After verifying program eligibility, candidates should sign up for an information session and submit the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship application. The deadline for submitting the application and all required attachments is Monday, November 4, 2024, at 12 noon (Toronto time).
Applicants will be notified by early December if they have been shortlisted by the Scholarship Admission Committee.
Step Three: Graduate Program Application
Once shortlisted, applicants should proceed with their graduate program application through the University of Toronto’s School of Graduate Studies (SGS) website. The specific department will provide additional instructions and deadlines for submitting supplementary materials.
