What Does the Scholarship Cover?
– Comprehensive Support for Your Education
JADS offers a robust package to support your academic journey:
Tuition Fees: Complete coverage for the duration of your master’s program (up to 24 months).
Monthly Stipend: A living allowance to support your day-to-day expenses.
Air Travel: Round-trip airfare from your home country to your host university.
Health Insurance: Typically provided through the host university.
Extended Support: An additional six months for preparatory studies or internships post-graduation.
Research Grants: Special funding for those engaged in research and thesis preparation.
Additional Courses: In special cases, the scholarship may cover computer literacy, language, and other preparatory courses.
Please Note: The scholarship duration covers up to two years or the length of your graduate program, whichever is shorter.
What’s Not Included?
While JADS provides extensive support, it’s essential to be aware of what isn’t covered:
Family Expenses: Costs related to bringing or supporting family members.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Fees for additional courses or training outside the main program.
Non-Program Language Training: Language courses not offered by the graduate program.
Supplementary Materials: Expenses for educational materials, field trips, workshops, seminars, or equipment like computers.
Additionally, JADS cannot be combined with other financial support. If you receive other funding, inform the JADS Secretariat, as it may affect your stipend.
Eligibility Criteria
To maximize your chances of securing a JADS scholarship, ensure you meet the following eligibility criteria:
1. Educational Background:
– Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in fields like energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering, or related areas.
– Demonstrate excellent academic records and relevant professional experience.
2. Professional Experience:
At least one year of paid employment in your home country or another African nation within the last three years post-bachelor’s degree.
3. Age and Health:
– Be 35 years old or younger.
– Maintain good health.
4. Admission to a Partner University:
– Secure admission to an approved master’s program at a Japanese or African partner university.
5. Current Enrollment:
Not enrolled in another graduate degree program.
6. Citizenship:
Be a citizen of one of the African Development Bank’s regional member countries.
7. Conflict of Interest:
Not an Executive Director, staff member, or close relative of such individuals within the African Development Bank Group.
