Job description

 

SERVICES/SCOPE OF WORK: The Intern shall use all reasonable efforts to perform the following services in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement: (Describe, in detail, work to be performed, services to be provided, objectives/goals of the work, etc)

Purpose of Internship: This HIS internship opportunity aims to equip candidate with the knowledge and skills in the Ethiopian health information design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and. The intern will gain insight on the various health information sources and tools with emphasis to the Routine Health Information (RHIS), practical experience in implementing various data quality assurance mechanisms, data use tools such as g DHIS2 for data analysis and visualization, HIS performance Monitoring dashboard, the public portal …etc. and understanding the basic steps of information use cycles. She will also have the opportunity to understand and engage in health sector data use platforms such as institution, Executive Office and case team level PMTs, participate in relevant workshops, and be involved in field activities to enhance their knowledge and skills in Health Information Systems (HIS). The internship will also be an opportunity to understand the role of the HIS governance as a foundation to the health information system and the various governance functions and coordination platforms.

In general, while acquiring basic skills and knowledge on the position and role of a well-performing HIS in strengthening the health system and achieving better health outcomes, the intern will provide support to the various efforts of SAEO in accomplishing its mission of coordinating and overseeing the HIS of Ethiopia on behalf of MOH.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The intern is expected to assess interventions to improve data quality and data use practice in the Ethiopian health sector. During the internship period, she will give due emphasis on reviewing the Ethiopian health management information system related document such as data recording and reporting procedure manual, indicator reference guide, ESV_ICD 11 implementation guideline, data quality and data use manual. She will also conduct data quality review, extract data from DHIS2, analyze data using DHIS2, and monitor implementation of ESV-ICD11 implementation. Furthermore, she will undertake assignment given to her by her supervisor. Generally, the intern will focus on practical tasks that enhance understanding and skills in managing health information systems.

DELIVERABLES: The Intern is responsible for the timely submission of the following deliverables: (If applicable)

  • Develop detail work plan and submit to supervisor
  • Review the HIS Strategic plan, Digital health Blue print, IR model institution Strategy and HIS related contents of the HSDIP and prepare a brief summary
  • Review the EFY 2017 plan of MOH and 2024-25 plan of JSI/DUP to comprehend the priorities and alignment of plans
  • Review the training materials of the 2021 revised HMIS and prepare a brief summary
  • Schedule a brief orientation on DHIS2 and eCHIS with relevant experts
  • Visit at least four nearby health facilities/health posts to gain practical insight on DHIS2, eCHIS and related tools and processes
  • Watch A-V materials focused on DHIS2 and eCHIS and prepare a brief summary
  • Conduct data quality review focusing on report completeness, internal consistency and identifying outlier, and prepare report
  • Engage in at least five priority activities of SAEO in EFY 2017 and get coached in the process
  • Participate on quarterly data quality review, data analysis and prepare report
  • Participate on LEOs and case team level performance monitoring meeting
  • Submit progress update as per agreed work plan
  • Accomplish other assignment given by supervisor

 

Job requirements

  • Number of internship position — One
  • Fresh Bachelor degree graduate in Health Systems, Health Policy, Public Health, Health Informatics or related disciplines with minimum GPA of 3.50 is required.
  • Zero years of relevant professional experience.
  • Internship for young female professional only
  • Ability to work under pressure, long work hours, and high workload.
  • Ability to independently organize work and prioritize tasks.
  • Self-motivated, honest, highly responsible, and punctual.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with people representing a wide range of personal and organizational cultures.
  • English fluency is required and ability to speak and write Amharic is required.
  • Duration of engagement 9 (nine) months
