Pastoralist Concern PC is a pastoralist-initiated, -inspired and -led CSO working toward sustainable development in pastoralist areas of Ethiopia since 1995, their vision is “to see improved and sustainable livelihood of the pastoralist communities of Ethiopia and further realize strong co-operations with neighboring countries’ pastoralist communities.” PC works within our target area in the Somali region, engaging in both multi-sector development programming and emergency responses across diverse sectors that include health and nutrition, WASH, environmental resilience, education, protection and women’s empowerment. PC works with the hard-to-reach pastoralist and Agro-pastoralist populations, including in Somali region. Skills training, mobilization and organization, awareness creation, input provision, value chain development, and market linkages are among the key strategies and approaches of PC to improving health and nutrition and to building livelihood resilience. PC has roughly 130 permanent staff, including staff with technical experience in community-based programming, protection, gender, GBV, resilience, WASH, Health and Nutrition who are based at their head office and field offices. The combined experience and technical expertise of Concern and PC means that we are well positioned to have a strong impact by implementing the targeted cross-border Irish Aid Child Wasting Initiative in the targeted pastoral communities.
We work in the sectors of Rural Development, WASH, Natural Resource Management and Social Development as well as Civil Society Strengthening.
Project Overview
Pastoralist has a partnership agreement with FHI 360 with the project title “Integrated Services for Humanitarian Implementation – Ethiopia III (ISHI-E III)” to be implemented in Charati, Hargelle, Filtu, Dekasuftu and Kersadulla woredas of Afdher and Liban zones respectively within the 10 months of the project life.

Objective of the position
This position will play a vital role in protecting and improving the health of our community by providing health education, promoting healthy behaviors, and delivering essential health services, creating social accountability on health care service and supporting the RMNCAH-N interventions at the district level.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Health Education and Promotion activities
- Develop and deliver health education programs on various topics including maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, disease prevention, and healthy living.
- Utilize a variety of communication methods to reach diverse audiences, such as community meetings, workshops, local radio broadcasts, and printed materials.
- Work with community leaders, religious figures, and other stakeholders to promote positive health behaviors.
- Apply CESA (Community engagement and social accountability) model over the district health care intervention
- Conduct Community cycle and Family health literacy models
Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Activities:
- Support and promote the utilization of antenatal care (ANC) clinics for pregnant women.
- Promote postnatal care for mothers and newborns, including institutional delivery
- Promote and support breastfeeding practices.
- Support Immunization service according to the national immunization schedule.
- Monitor child growth and development and identify potential health problems.
Community Nutrition:
- Assess the nutritional status of the community, including identification of malnutrition cases.
- Provide nutrition education and counseling to individuals and families.
- Support the implementation of community-based nutrition interventions.
Surveillance and Epidemic Control:
- Conduct disease surveillance activities to identify and monitor outbreaks of communicable diseases including VPDs.
- Participate in outbreak investigations and implement control measures.
- Report disease data to local health authorities in a timely manner.
Related Tasks:
- Maintain accurate and complete public health intervention records.
- Supervise and train lower-level health workers (HEWs, CV).
- Participate in continuing professional development activities.
- Collaborate effectively with other health professionals, community leaders, and government officials.

Job requirements
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public health Nursing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in public health or a related field, preferably in NGO and in a similar community setting.
- Fluency in Somali and English is a strong asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to public health principles and practices.
- Valid license to practice as a health professional in Ethiopia.
- Understanding of local language and culture is mandatory.
