Job description

.

Position Summary:

The Community Out-reach Worker is responsible to plan, implement, and monitor all interventions and activities related to community engagement, health literacy, advocacy, and social accountability activities at designated PHCUs, kebele, and health post levels. In addition, s/he is expected to work closely with woreda project coordinator, community health program units (CHP), kebele leadership, health extension workers, and other implementing partners in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and sharing of lessons and learning of project activities and interventions at community, health post, and household levels.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the health center’s CHP unit, kebele leadership, and HEWs to plan, implement, and monitor community engagement strategies, health literacy, advocacy, and social accountability systems and platforms
  • Plan and roll-out various trainings on community engagement strategies, health literacy, advocacy, and social accountability at their designated PHCU and kebeles
  • Enhance the capacity of HC’s CHP unit staff, HEWs, community structures, client councils, and kebele leadership on community engagement, health literacy, advocacy, and social accountability
  • Work closely with kebele leadership, HEWs, and other government sectors to strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration and coordination for effective implementation of community engagement strategies, advocacy and social accountability
  • Map, capacitate, and engage NSAs and community structures to ensure accountability, transparency, and responsiveness of the health system
  • Conduct follow-up visits and regular supportive supervision to CHP Unit, HEWs, community structures, client councils, and kebele leadership
  • Work closely with CHP unit and HEWs to support regular performance reviews and experience sharing of community and social accountability structures
  • Support client councils to implement the full-cycle of the integrated social accountability tools
  • Work closely with HP staff to support continuous capacity building of community and social accountability structures through training, mentorship and coaching
  • Provide and ensure utilization of job-aids, tools, and guides for HEWs, community structures, and client councils
  • Work closely with HEWs, community structures, and client councils to enhance interaction among HEWs, community structures, and households
  • Provide technical support to HEWs and community structures to disseminate SBC messages on health literacy to families and individuals
  • Enhance the functionality of community structures and platforms in collaboration with HEWs
  • Prepare and submit biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports to the project coordinator
  • Identify, document, and share success stories, lessons and learning
  • Any responsibilities assigned by the supervisor

Duty station: Selected project operation woredas in Jimma/ Ilu Ababor zone

Job Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Woreda project coordinator

Salary: As per the organization scale

Job requirements

Qualification:

  • At least Level-IV training in health fields, Social Science, or related fields with experience related to community engagement and empowerment, social accountability, social behavior change
  • More than five years of demonstrated experience in the implementation of Ethiopian Health Extension Program
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience with Ethiopian Health Extension Program including the Social Accountability, community engagement, community structures
  • Demonstrated experiences on capacity development of Non-State Actors, community structures
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, promote teamwork and effort
  • Strong training and meeting facilitation skill is required
  • Experience of working with local governments, civil society organizations, and familiarity with the local context, culture, and language is desirable
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
