Description Of The Position: The position will be a mixed role involving project management and project officer responsibilities initially. Following a two-year contract period, the position is intended to transition into a program management role upon evaluation.
Background:
Nutrition 4 Education And Development (N4ED) is a grassroots-level Ethiopian civil society organization dedicated to fostering a productive generation through investments in children’s nutrition, early childhood development, and the empowerment of women. As part of our commitment to women’s empowerment, N4ED is actively addressing the challenges related to gender-based violence (GBV) to ensure holistic well-being. In line with this objective, N4ED is seeking a qualified GBV Project manager to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- For the project entitled “Enhancing survivor-centered GBV care & response mechanisms in Addis Ababa and Mek’ele under the JUDGE program,” the role will be “Senior GBV Officer” with the following responsibilities:
- Enforce and pilot the national SOP for GBV Prevention, Risk Mitigation, and Response by providing guidance and support to first-line responders in the project areas, ensuring proper implementation and adherence to the SOP
- Conduct capacity-building initiatives for targeted institutions, including organizing and delivering training and facilitating knowledge transfer to strengthen their response to GBV cases and enhance their capacity to provide quality support and care to GBV survivors.
- Follow up on the implementation of the national SOP, working closely with the pilot institutions and relevant stakeholders to monitor progress, address challenges, and ensure continuous improvement.
- Validate the documents produced in the program by engaging partners and stakeholders, seeking their input, and incorporating feedback to ensure their relevance and effectiveness.
- Collect data, analyze, and reflect on existing response systems for GBV in different contexts to understand strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement at different stages of the program
- Develop communication tools to raise awareness about GBV prevention and promote the visibility of referral pathways, ensuring that survivors and the community are aware of available support services.
- Develop advocacy tools for enhanced attention and care for GBV survivors through various channels, such as engaging with local authorities, community leaders, and relevant institutions to promote policy changes and resource allocation.
- Design indicators to track progress against target values and contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Conduct field visits to the pilot areas to verify protocol compliance, assess the quality of services provided, and identify areas for further improvement.
- For the project entitled “Combating Gender-Based Violence in the Dire Dawa Region,” the role will be “GBV project manager” with the following responsibilities:
- Follow up the overall project and support its execution remotely in a timely and budget-sensitive manner
- Compile, verify, and defend activity and budget reports
- Conduct field visits in Dire Dawa and manage stakeholders in Addis Ababa and those traveling from abroad.
Moreover, under N4ED’s other services and projects, the GBV Officer may be assigned additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the organization.

Qualifications And Skills:
- Medical Background: Medical Doctor or holder of a Masters’s in Public Health, the GBV Project manager should possess a medical background to effectively contribute to N4ED’s multifaceted focus on health, nutrition, and GBV. It will also enable us to understand the medical aspects and implications of GBV, supporting survivors’ holistic recovery.
- GBV Expertise: Demonstrate experience working in one-stop centers or on GBV-related projects, applying a survivor-centered approach and adhering to ethical standards.
- Non-Clinical Experience: Possess a minimum of 3 years of professional experience with at least 1 year in a non-clinical context where the individual has been involved in organizing operational activities.
- Language Proficiency: Be fluent in English and Amharic, with a preference for proficiency in a second Ethiopian language, facilitating effective communication with diverse communities.
- Leadership Qualities: Exhibit strong leadership qualities, allowing for effective coordination, communication, and decision-making. Able to engage and inspire others, a team worker, and I am passionate about service to others.
- Autonomy and Organization: Be capable of organizing activities and working autonomously, time management, prioritization, work discipline, and multi-tasking to meet deadlines and ensure the quality of deliverables in a demanding work environment. Prior project management experience is a plus.
- Partnership Exposure Experience interacting with local and international partners, fostering collaborations under the project, and representing N4ED in GBV-related initiatives.
- Nutrition Knowledge: Basic knowledge of nutrition-related issues is a serious plus for the officer to better understand and rise in competence in the other projects of N4ED
- Demonstrated commitment to volunteering and community engagement.
Location: Based in Addis Ababa, with a few trips to Mek’ele and Dire Dawa
Duration: Two years with a possibility of extension
Main Requirement: Medical Doctor or MPH with experience in GBV projects, case management or care
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: 30,000 ETB Net
