Organizational Description:
Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993.
The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) global initiatives. The vision of the association is to see every woman, newborn, and their family have access to standard midwifery care. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of midwifery profession through adapting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and conduct empowering the professionals.
Position summary:
The project coordinator reports to the Project manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating and Providing RMNCAH-N services and humanitarian activities program in the region. S/he also conduct and coordinate different surveys on the efficiency and effectiveness of the programs and its impact at the grass root level.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead a multi-disciplinary professional emergency team (Midwife and Mobile health and nutrition team) working on the project site
- Ensure emergency assessments are effectively undertaken and implement integrated emergency response, recovery, and exit strategies in close collaboration with major partners and stakeholders
- Ensure all team members clearly understand and carry out their duties following personal work plans, humanitarian principles, core values, the Code of Conduct.
- Work collaboratively in close relation with other staff.
- Promote a productive work environment respectful of the Code of Conduct with zero tolerance for verbal and physical abuse or discrimination against other persons on the grounds of race, color, sex, or creed.
- Ensure all team members are fully briefed on all aspects of security, social and cultural norms, and local conditions and behavior.
- Scheduling stakeholder meetings and facilitating communication between the project manager and stakeholders throughout the project life cycle.
- Monitoring project progress and creating project status reports project managers and stakeholders
- Create the conditions to ensure effective teamwork and morale are strictly observed.
- Conduct periodic performance evaluation of team members and provide timely feedback.
- Ensure logistical resources demands are fully assessed, identified, described, and communicated, in collaboration with the partners and Country Office logistic department.
- Identify training needs and work with the HR department to develop and implement relevant training plans.
- Communicate effectively on usage, procedures, and relevant communications protocols to all emergency response teams.
- Coordinate effectively the development of all project implementation plans and budgets within the framework of the agreed emergency response program and strategy
- Ensure effective budget management at the field level, including correct coding of expenses and adherence to financial management guidelines and donor requirements.
- Coordinate the designing/development of emergency response projects and ensure projects are effectively implemented, monitored/reviewed, evaluated and progress and final reports are timely compiled and shared with Project Manager
- Ensure adequate monitoring, reporting, and acquittal of emergency response activities following donor regulations, country and national office requests, international humanitarian accountability frameworks, and relevant EMwA standards
- Provide continuous technical and organizational support and capacity building to field teams.
- Make regular visits to emergency response field sites to provide field staff support and address programmatic challenges;
- Ensure different sectoral activities are implemented in a coordinated and integrated manner;
- Ensure all project activities are conducted in accordance with the agreed work plans and proposals
- Managing relationships and networking with government, partners and other stakeholders
- Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with other NGOs, UN agencies, local government, bilateral and multilateral donors, and other principle stakeholders.
- Identifies and synthesizes the best practices and lessons learnt directly linked to programme implementations in EMwA.
- Provide technical assistance (supervision, coaching and mentoring) to regional /chapter offices in order to deliver the proper implementation of programs in line with the government policies and directions
- Develop briefing documents such as power point presentations and various other platforms as needed to communicate the results of EMwA’s work to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Develop project proposals , concept note and initiate new program and projects specifically those activities which can insure the sustainability of the organization.
- Maintain comprehensive records of activities, reports, studies and baseline data of the project area
- Prepare and compile Weekly, monthly and quarterly activity reports and submit to the MERL department and project manager
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
- MPH /MSC with back ground of Midwifery or BSc in Midwifery
Experience and training
- 3/ 7 years of experience out of which 2 years should be in coordinator/ managerial /supervisory position
- Experience in I/NGO environment
- Eexperience in and exposure to working in a humanitarian environment
- Relevant experience in project design, implementation and evaluation in reproductive health service & facilitation of training.
- Basic/Tot training on MISP, GBV/CMRC, PSS, FP, BEmONC, Training Facilitation Skill, Mentorship …
- Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
- Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines through excellent time management, organization and multi-tasking skills.
