Stipend: $220 per month for communication and transport – subject to local taxes

Job description

Purpose Of The Role

NLSE mentors will be senior nurses who are passionate about supporting the
development of the next generation of perioperative nursing leaders. You will
provide mentorship and coaching to teams of trainees and hospital based mentors as they undergo the leadership program and implement quality improvement projects. You will help trainees translate their learning into practice and strengthen their skills. This role will involve weekly travel to the 3 hospital pilot sites; St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, St. Peter Specialized Hospital and Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital.

As a mentor you will be assigned mentees who are working in perioperative care areas who are undertaking the 9 month NLSE program, involving 11 modules of learning and completion of a Quality Improvement project. Through a structured process – you will help them translate their learning into practice, troubleshoot issues and support the development of their skills.

Modules included in the program curriculum; IT skills, Leadership, management and communication, Research, Quality Improvement, Perioperative nursing introduction, Surgical safety checklist, Surgical instruments, Pain assessment & management, Post-operative care, IPC, Professional development.

Job requirements

Person Specification

● Currently working or have previously worked in a senior nursing role in a
perioperative care area (Surgical ward, OR, PACU)

● 8-10 years post qualification experience since initial nursing registration

● Hold a mentorship or teaching qualification

● Proven experience mentoring individuals and teams

● Experienced in research and Quality Improvement initiatives including
authorship for publication
