Duration: 9 months (January 2023, to September 2023)

Time commitment: 6 hours per week

Stipend: $140 per month – subject to local taxes

Number of roles available: 3 per hospital site

Interviews expected: Week beginning 16th January 2023

Job description

Purpose Of The Role

This role is aimed at nurses and midwives working in perioperative areas who are interested in developing their leadership, communication and research skills.

The Lifebox nurse leadership training offers 9 months of accredited teaching and mentoring with a blended approach of in-person and virtual training. You will undertake 11 modules of learning and be mentored to complete a Quality Improvement project – from design, to
implementation and publication. The majority of learning is delivered on the job, with 3 weeks of in person sessions spread across 6 months.

Modules included in the program curriculum; IT skills, Leadership, management and communication, Research, Quality Improvement, Perioperative nursing introduction, Surgical safety checklist, Surgical instruments, Pain assessment & management, Post-operative
care, IPC, Professional development.

Benefits

Monthly stipend $140 (subject to taxes) for communication and transport costs, laptop for study purposes, assigned mentor to provide coaching, teaching delivered by an international nursing faculty, certificate with CEU’s credit units for the renewal of nursing licence.

Reporting to NLSE program Mentor.

Job requirements

Person Specification

● Nurses or Midwives – Adult/paediatric/scrub, Dip/BSc/MSc

● Currently working at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College, St. Peter Specialized Hospital or Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in a Surgical ward (all specialities), in the OR
or PACU/recovery area

● Have minimum 5 years experience since initial nursing registration

● Able to commit for 9 months (6 hours per week)

● Able to evidence continued professional development

● Confident learning in English

● Able to provide letter from hospital management to confirm you will not be rotated during the program
