Assistant researcher (Field Research Coordinator)
Job Description:
- The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
In collaboration with the Norwegian institute of public health, and other African Institutes, AHRI is conducting a study that aims at evaluating the feasibility, accuracy, and effect of a rapid point-of-care serological triage test for active TB (SeroSelectTB). The study is funded by EDCTP and will be conducted in 5 districts of West Gojjam zone. The project involves filed activities, program coordination at the office level and communication with stake holders and partners within or outside AHRI. We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced candidate to be part of the team and contribute to the successful completion of the project through quality work. The employee will be base at Bahirdar.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the field and lab activities at Health posts and health centers as per the requirements of the project
- Closely work with the study team (project PI/core team, assistant field research coordinator, lab team, data team and project coordinator) to execute the smooth conduct of the project
- Perform regular quality control on data collection tools (such as CRFs and ICFs) at the study sites
- Identify challenges and facilitate discussion to solve problems
- Follow and prepare technical reports (enrollment updates and other additional site reports) regularly/on a weekly basis and submit to the project Coordinator
- Assist the project coordinator and the PI in setting up meeting agenda, minutes recording, organizing/attending online conferences
- Execute additional duties as may be assigned by the PI/core team to meet the objectives of the project
Job Requirements:

- BSC Degree in Biomedical Sciences or any other health related field and minimum of two years work experience; OR MSc Degree in Biomedical Sciences or any other health related field.
- Minimum cGPA of 3.00 for male and 2.75 for female (Your cGPA should be specified in your CV)
- Experience in conduct of health research involving human subjects or public health research
- Experience in field research supervision, coordination or management
- Experience in timely preparation of technical reports
- Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and diverse team
- Training/experience in quality control/assurance, GCP, data handling and management (use of REDCap and EPInfo is preferable)
Personal Attributes:
- Personal training/skills in the required position
- Excellent interpersonal communication skill and proficient English skill
- Strong computer literacy (MS office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
- Strong organizational skills; flexible to working off-working hours or weekends
- A high level of attention to details – Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators
- Open for discussion and learning – Ability to problem solving and willingness to take self-initiatives
- Willingness to take up additional responsibilities and continuous training as needed

Terms and Conditions:
Salary: According to the Institute’s scale for contract employees
Hours of Work: Are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working late hours and weekends
Length of Contract: This is a one-year post, subject to annual contract renewal
