Job Description:

Brief Profile of the College:

 

Established in 2002, Universal Medical & Business College (UMBC), is one of the pioneers in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education sector. Since its establishment, UMBC has been offering quality education and training in various health fields including Pharmacy, Nursing and Public Health programs both at undergraduate degree and TVET/diploma level. The College lately has launched its 1st Postgraduate program, i.e. Public Health in Nutrition. Currently, having its headquarter around Hayahulet Mazoria, behind Dinberua Hospital, UMBC is on the verge of launching new Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programs in Business and Finance fields of studies along with expanding its existing programs in terms of level and catchment area. In doing so, the College invites qualified and interested applicants in the following vacant position/s who will assist in realizing its goal.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Study and identify research priorities, which are believed to play an important role in terms of promoting the development of the society and the country at large.
  • Update and enrich the guidelines for research and disseminating research outputs as well as community activities;
  • Encourage and motivate staff members and students towards conducting research works on various topics and areas;
  • Organize workshops regularly in which research findings are presented and disseminated;
  • Coordinate and support the preparation and publication of relevant textbooks and     instructional teaching materials;
  • Ensure that all publications meet the required quality standards;
  • Publish and distribute journals, manuals, proceedings, newsletters, and other publications that could be used as communication media and serve as a platform for exchanging views and experiences among researchers, instructors, and students;
  • Establish links with other institutions pertaining research and community engagement engagements;
  • Mobilize the College’s community towards working on solving prevailing problems in the surrounding community;
  • Approve research projects submitted by different departments/faculties;
  • Work with different committees in connection with community services and research activities within the College.
  • Prepare plans, programs, and budget of the department.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports with respect to community service activities, research undertaking, budgetary allocations, and utilization, etc.;
  • Carry out other activities as required;

Job Requirements:

Summary of Job Requirements:

Any successful candidate for this advertised position is expected to be able to plan, coordinate, and direct all activities of the Research and Publication as well as Community Engagement Services in a way it can help the College achieve its vision. S/he will make sure a consistent conduction and dissemination of research outputs to solve the socio economic bottlenecks of the society. S/he will also be able to work in cooperation with the various offices of the College as well as the surrounding community.

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • MSc/MA/BSc/BA in Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy & Pharmaceuticals, Statistics, Business Administration, Anthropology, Sociology,  or other Health and Social Science related fields;
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience for MA/MSc and 4 years for BA/BSc preferably in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education Institution/s of which at least two years as Head of Research & Publication and/or Community Service areas;

Essential Competencies & Qualities

  • Familiarity to FDRE’s ETA and its activities
  • Oral & Written fluency in English and Amharic languages;
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles & practices of management;
  • Excellent facilitation and networking skills; proven experience in coordinating & leading team/s;
  • Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal & demonstrational skills;
  • Good communication and report writing skills;
  • Experience in Using different research tools;
  • Ability to work in pressures and to meet deadlines;
  • Faithfulness to work ethics, to the rules and regulations in all aspects
