Job Description:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees made to flee from war or disaster. IRC has been working in Ethiopia since 2000 GC and is implementing community-managed programs sought at improving the lives and recover of livelihood of disaster-affected population’s through promoting individual participation, strengthening institutions and emergency response. Currently, IRC is operating in the Oromia, Benishangul, Tigray, SNNPR and Somali regions on Emergency Response, refugee’s assistance and livelihood projects.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This post is sought for accurate implementation of Emergency health and nutrition project that will work with targeted health facilities at the project sites. They will closely work with woreda health office to improve their participation and involvement in prevention, awareness creation and capacitating woreda based government health staffs.

This position will be based at Deder Town and will directly report to the Senior HN Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct all activities planned under the project according to plan and in accordance with the budget allocated.
  • Supervise and Implement the project activities as per the plan and provide project data for fast decision making.
  • Regular field monitoring visit to emergency hotspot areas where IRC is responding for emergencies health responses activities and provide technical support.
  • Identify and involve all key partners in the woreda on a regular basis and support health structure in strengthening surveillance system at facility and community level.
  • Attend and represent IRC Health Rapid Response in relevant meetings organized by UN, Government, donors, clusters and other NGOs. Prepare meeting notes as required and share these with all concerned.
  • Provide support in developing and implementation of a community-based communication strategy (IEC/BCC)
  • Work closely with staff from other sectors (CWI, WASH and CASH) to ensure coordinated approach in program implementation in his/her woreda.
  • Prepare and share weekly activity update and monthly reports, assist in quarterly and annual report preparation
  • Provide and/or facilitate trainings and workshops as per the project work plan
  • The post holder will take additional responsibilities as the need arises as by the direct supervisor and health manager.

Job Requirements:

  • MSc/BSc Degree/Diploma in Public Health, Nursing or Midwifery.
  • Minimum work experience of 1 year for MSc Degree holders, 2 years for BSc Degree holders & 5 years for Diploma holders.
  • Have relevant training on CMAM, IMCI, PHEM, SRH is required
  • Have recognized background and knowledge in emergency response and confirmed work experience in interactive and participatory approaches.
  • Good technical and report writing skills with computer knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication is required. Afan Oromo language is advantageous .
  • Self-motivated, open, highly responsible, and punctual and ability to constructively address gaps and weaknesses.
  • Ability to work under pressure in remote areas and understanding of the cultural context of the local area.
