Purpose of the post

Join our team to support the acceleration of active screening and referral, integrated management of acute malnutrition, quality delivery of IYCF and micronutrient interventions, nutrition information management as well as integration of nutrition program into other sectors. It is with this background that UNICEF, is seeking to hire four qualified Nutrition Consultants to provide field-level support in the coordination and monitoring of emergency nutrition interventions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Specialists and in close collaboration with the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator, Zonal Health authorities and NGO/INGO partners, the Nutrition consultants will provide support in the coordination and implementation of quality emergency nutrition interventions. The methodology to be applied to this consultancy will include but is not limited to:

  • Monitoring NGO partners on SAM treatment, IYCF and nutrition services. Minimum 10 OTP Field Visits conducted in a month and reports submitted using the ODK-based EUM.
  • Monitoring Nutrition supplies (RUTF, F75, F100) and reporting on stock balances at woreda level and any discrepancies.
  • Facilitating zonal nutrition review meetings and consultations with partners
  • Supporting partners with weekly and monthly nutrition data collection, analysis and reporting to the team members responsible in Shire and UNICEF Field office in Mekelle
  • Participating in weekly nutrition coordination meetings and assisting with notes taking and communication of action points with partners
  • In liaison with the Field Office in Mekelle, ensuring availability of the required nutrition supplies to the regional Health authorities and Nutrition partners in the Zones.
  • Undertaking weekly program monitoring visits to provide supportive supervision to frontline health workers on quality nutrition services and reporting.
  • As agreed with the Nutrition Specialist and the Nutrition Cluster Coordinator, coordinating capacity-building activities for partners and respective government authorities.
  • Performing any other related incident-specific duties, as required by the functional supervisor

Undertake weekly program monitoring visits to provide supportive supervision to frontline health workers on the delivery of quality nutrition services and reporting. 100% weekly program monitoring visits completed, and reports shared timely. Monthly

As agreed with the Nutrition Specialist and the Nutrition Cluster, coordinate capacity-building activities for partners and respective government authorities. 50% of health workers received on-job training, coaching, and mentoring on nutrition interventions by the end. 30th June 2023

Job requirements

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • A university degree in nutrition, public health, or technical field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 [Three] years of relevant professional experience in Nutrition, public health and/or in relevant areas, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness, at the international level and/or in a developing country is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Good interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.
  • Experience in situation analysis, capacity building, monitoring, and evaluation, preferably experience in emergency Nutrition intervention.
  • Experience in conducting assessments/Surveys.
  • Knowledge about the region, zones and woredas is a great asset.
  • In-depth analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, training skills and ability to organize and implement training.
  • Ability to work in hard-to-reach areas, multi-cultural environment, and proven interpersonal skills. Experience in building successful relationships with government counterparts, UN agencies, CSOs and other relevant stakeholders
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
