Position Title: Community Mobilizer

Duty Station:  Aga Wayu, Gumi Gumi Eldelo and Seba Boru Woredas of Guji Zone – Oromia Region

Project Duration: – 4 Months

Program / Department Summary

The project is intended to reduce morbidity, mortality and sufferings associated with malnutrition for internally displaced communities who do not have access to primary health care services and basic nutrition services.

General Position Summary

The Community Mobilizer is responsible to facilitate community meetings, organizes events, and supports TSF/nutrition and IYCF team in implementing the project activities in operational Woredas.  This position will have a strong competency on community participation, ownership creation, communication skills, and relationship building and networking, active case finding.  Together with the other members of the team in proposed woredas will work to ensure that technical activities are implemented in accordance with established standards and recognized best practices to contribute to the achievement of the project’s objectives.

She/he is responsible to work closely with the Woreda, Kebele, Community, and Religious Leaders and Health Development Army for the effective implementation and uptake of moderate acute malnutrition.

The position holder will spend approximately 90% of their time traveling throughout the project sites.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision

·       Collaborate with other team member for effective integration between other services like Nutrition and health services

·       Collaborate with Local authorities and other partners to harmonize different efforts for better impact and sustainability.

·       Able to learn and update his/ her information or knowledge to adapt the changing situation and context

Program Management

  • Respect the dignity of beneficiaries, carers and members of the community.
  • Ensure that each carer receives proper health education at each distribution session
  • Provide community mobilization activities to mothers and caregivers of malnourished children
  • Provide trainings/coaching to Community Volunteers (FDAs) on identifies nutritional issues
  • Actively participate in Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) distributions points and work closely with team
  • Ensure tracing of defaulters and non-responders jointly with FDAs in the community
  • Participate in post-distribution monitoring activities jointly with MEL team and nutrition team
  • Always uphold the image and values of MC.
Team Management
  • Supports IYCF Officer and TSF Officer in managing MAM cases
  • Assist the community volunteer (CV) and other nutrition team where required.
  • Assist in hygiene promotion and sensitization campaigns and any other tasks when required

·       Creates and maintain relationship with community volunteers and help them to contribute for program

·       Educate the community to improve their health and nutrition services seeking behavior and motivate them to come to health facilities

·       Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.

·       Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience

·       Diploma or BSc in Social Science, Nutrition, Health or other related fields
·       Willingness and ability to perform field works and travel to the remote areas within the sites
·       Ability to interact effectively with the diverse ethnic groups throughout the sites
·       Previous experience in community mobilization in the context of management of moderate acute malnutrition
·       Previous work experience with a non-governmental organization especially in Mercy Corps community work.
·       Ability to take initiative and work independently
·       Organized, reliable and good communication skills
·       Ability to read, write and speak English and Affan Oromo fluently
·       Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team
