Job description

ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The Ethiopian Health Education and Promotion Professional Association (EHEPPA) was established and registered by the Ethiopian civil society organization authority in 2021.

The mission of the association is to save lives and improve the quality of life of Ethiopian citizens by promoting healthy behaviors, prevention of disease, increasing treatment-seeking behavior and adherence to treatment services targeting communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health services and health system behaviors. It is an organization working on behavioral insight, advocacy for health, social marketing, community mobilization, community engagement, risk communication, improving personal and organizational health literacy and quantitative and qualitative behavioral health-related research, evidence synthesis and monitoring and evaluation of health behavior programs. It also develops and designs quality assurance strategies in social and behavior change communication (SBCC) material and methods for health.

Through its partnership and networking strategy, EHEPPA has secured funding for SBCC evidence synthesis, behavioral insight and COVID-19 Vaccine uptake promotion at higher education institutions.

To accomplish these tasks, EHEPA would like to invite experienced and competent candidates for the Executive Director vacant post:

JOB SUMMARY

The Executive Director is in charge of putting the Executive Board’s policy decisions into action. He/ she provides strategic direction and ensures that transparency and accountability are prevalent throughout the association’s activities, as well as carrying out all of the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to him/ her by the association’s regulations. He or she is entrusted with acting as the association’s high-level authority.

He/she improves the Association’s governance structure, making it more effective, reliable, reputable, transparent, and accountable.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS:

  1. Ensures and prepares a consolidated periodic report on the implementation of the work plan, budget utilization, and performance management, which is sent to the Executive Board on a regular basis.
  2. Ensure that EHEPA regulations are followed and that expenditures are regulated in accordance with the work schedule and budget agreed, as well as generally accepted accounting standards and the Association’s policy manuals and applicable national legislation.
  3. Ensure that the Association fulfills its constitutional and legal obligations and responsibilities, and adheres to its Constitutions/Regulations, policies, and procedural manuals in a transparent and accountable manner.
  4. Ensures that the Association has the necessary resources (human, material, and financial) and that it runs as effectively and efficiently as possible, and directs and oversees the Association’s financial, material, and human resource activities.
  5. Lead, manage and inspire a team, establish an environment that allows employees to realize their potential and promote high-performing teams, and ensure the construction and maintenance of a human resource system that is consistent with the Association’s goal and values.
  6. In collaboration with relevant national and international donors, development partners, and implementing agencies, critically evaluate the funding requirements for Program operations and income generation activities, and partnership requests, and ensures, identify, and secure funding for EHEPA programs and projects.
  7. Liaises and maintains effective relationships with the government, NGOs, and international organizations to ensure that policies and initiatives are properly harmonized.
  8. Make plans for the association’s long-term success and allocate jobs effectively as needed.
  9. Act as the Association’s legal representative in all legal matters, including the right to sue and be sued, as well as the right to enter into contractual and partnership agreements with the government, donors, development partners, consortiums, and other corporate agencies on a national and international level.
  10. Establish and maintain effective networks, as well as encourage the development of connections with all employees, key partners, supporters, and other stakeholders.
  11. Identify and pursue opportunities to broaden and promote the Association’s position at the national, regional, and international levels.
  12. Promote the association as a leading behavioral change organization by advocating for government approval of behavioral change policies, developing policy documents on behavioral change initiatives, and submitting them to the government.
  13. Establish an advocacy strategy and perform advocacy work among government entities and media practitioners through seminars and the distribution of advocacy pamphlets in order to gain financial support.
  14. Ensure that the Association is presented in a professional and acceptable manner to all stakeholders (development partners, donors, NGOs, CSOs, and others) and that all data and information demands are met.
  15. Represent EHEPA on a national and regional level, ensuring that the association’s vision, missions, and values are communicated in a positive and compelling manner; represent the association at national and regional conferences, seminars, consortium meetings, and National Technical Working Group (TWGS)/committees on health promotion and related issues.

Job Requirement

A. Qualification: MPH in Public Health/ health promotion and health education or related field

B. Relevant Experience: Relevant work experience is desirable

C. Skills:

  • Strategic-oriented, excellent leadership and quality management skills and practices with an analytical bent of mind
  • Ability to make logical and timely decisions
  • Good negotiation and delegation skills
  • Good networking skills and team player
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to coach, and support subordinates to improve their skills and achieve targets.
  • Other Computer Proficiency in MS Word, EXCEL, MS-Access, etc.

Salary: Negotiable

Duty Station: Addis Ababa

Job Type: 6 months contractual with possible extension
