Senior Surveillance Expert
Job Description:
- Key responsibilities
- Lead in the coordination of planning, management, adaptation and implementation of strategies and work plans for public health surveillance and survey related projects
- Establish collaborative working group with key technical and program stakeholders;
- Lead & actively participate in grants and proposal development and write-up;
- Develop project technical and budget plans for the implementation of secured projects;
- Assist in the following up on the activities of the pillar, including monitoring and evaluating progress made in line with a predefined work plan
- Lead document preparation: national documents, training materials, and operational guidelines (SOPs, TOR) as well as engage in capacity building activities
- Supervise, support and mentor facility-based surveillance officers and regional coordinators
- Engage in national and subnational annual Work plan and Review meetings
- Monitor and support subnational offices and staffs
- Support and ensure One Health approach through Intersectoral collaboration for disease prevention and response
- Produce periodic reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
- Participates in required conference calls, trainings, and meetings
- Develop a system to ensure supervision of activities, feedback, sharing of data with stakeholders and across all levels, and course corrections
- Execute other responsibilities as required by the supervisor;
Employment type – Full time one-year contract with a possibility of renewal on availability of funds and successful performance of year contract.
Line of responsibility – the senior surveillance expert will be directly responsible to the Project Manager
Place of work – Addis Ababa, with a possibility of travel to regions

Job Requirements:
- Qualification and work experience
Minimum qualifications
- Masters in field epidemiology/epidemiology, or public health from an accredited and recognized academic institution. Degree in doctor of Medicine is an added value.
- Work experience in the field of Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM), particularly epidemiologic surveillance and response for at least five years at regional or national level
- Experience in project management
- Experience of conducting trainings, supervision and mentorship
- Experience in development and review of documents
- Familiar with country’s existing health policy and Public Health Emergency Management system
