Job description
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) is an international non-governmental organization impacting millions of lives in more than 70 countries, leveraging a century’s experience confronting poverty and crisis around the world. JDC began working in Ethiopia in 1983, striving to advance the health and wellbeing of those living in the Gondar region.
JDC is looking for experienced and energetic Medical Program professionals and would like to invite qualified and interested persons to apply for the post.
About the Project
The Spine Project provides medical care and surgical treatment for patients with spinal deformities. It aims to assist Ethiopians with spinal deformities to get care and surgery concentrating on youths, poor and marginalized patients who are likely to have a good outcome.
The Medical Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and efficient operation of health projects within JDC. She/he is responsible for assisting patients (mostly children with heart, spine disease and cancer) in their evaluation and treatment:
What will you do as the Medical Program Coordinator?
- Implement policies, make work schedules, delegate assignments, manage training endeavors and generally coordinate the efforts of all medical staff members to ensure competence and effective use of resources.
- Engage in clinic activities, work closely with the Medical Program Director to see patients on a daily basis and be trained on how to evaluate & treat spine patients.
- Facilitate the early detection activities of the project by working in close partnership with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain patient records by compiling, managing and securing the medical database under their care, and keep both the information and the computer system up-to-date.
- Analyze patient data collected and conduct research together with other medical team members, the MoH and professionals from stakeholder organizations.
- Lead the process of establishment of the spine center by collaborating with government and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate all activities associated with medical missions and sending patients abroad for surgery.
- Take inventories of medicine and supplies. Order medicine from manufacturers.
- Maintain hard and soft copies of patient forms, receipts, applications and other types of documents. Back up computers, invoices and digital photos.
- Obtain information, document or record information, interact with computers, analyze data, process information, communicate with supervisors and co-workers, and provide IT support to the team.
- Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery of all databases and working files; ensure backup of client/patient data electronically.
- Work with software developers and software partners in new systems development.
- Assist the Medical Director on all matters pertaining to patient communication during clinic hours.
- Convene the patient medical case reviewing committee to approve new patients.
- Convene the Medical program team, provide insight and support planning short and long term processes
- Prepare reports, analyze data, support M and E processes
- Lead and oversee activities of all current and upcoming Medical Programs within JDC-Ethiopia.
- Perform other duties as and when assigned by the Medical Program Director and Country Director.
Requirements:
- Medical Doctor with an interest in spine.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of Ethiopian health sector policies and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the health sector in Ethiopia.
- Proven record of forging partnerships in PPP model.
- Strong ability to manage and deal with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven management experience in the private sector, government services, NGOs (order of preference)
- Proven experience in working in an international environment.
- Experience in partnership management.
- Preference if studied abroad or participated in professional visits abroad
- Good understanding of participatory approaches
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both in English and Amharic (oral or written).
- Willingness to travel on monthly basis to regions
- Well organized, analytical and able to prioritize multiple tasks
- Willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge
- Excellent IT skills, MS Office applications
