Background
The Last Ten Kilometer (L10K) project—What it Takes to Improve Health Outcomes in Rural Ethiopia—has been implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) through funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) since 2007. The project has been striving to improve reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health (RMNCH) care behaviors and outcomes in country.
Since November 2020, L10K has been conducting implementation research (IR) to examine the implementation challenges of community-based neonatal sepsis management in Ethiopia’s context that hinder the effective scale-up of community-based neonatal sepsis management, design, and support the adaptive implementation of community-based neonatal sepsis management and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on neonatal mortality. Accordingly, the project seeks to contribute towards maintenance of high-quality delivery of sepsis management and synthesize and disseminate implementation strategies to impact national and global high-fidelity implementation, integration, and scale of community-based neonatal sepsis management. This implementation research is being conducted at Dembecha and Lume woreda of Amhara and Oromia regions, respectively.
The project intends to carry out an end line evaluation to examine the effectiveness of the implementation strategies. For this purpose, L10K wants to hire 4 qualitative data collectors and 32 quantitative data collectors as short-term consultants who will conduct the data collection and transcription in under the technical lead of the M& E and Research team.
1. Qualitative data collectors
Required number: 4 (four)
Place of Work: Dembecha and Lume woredas.
Duration: 14 days
Responsibilities:
· Together with the researcher, develop travel plan and carry out in-depth interviews with program managers, service providers, and health extension workers
· Record conversations and take field notes
· Translate and transcribe from local languages into English
Qualifications and experience:
v Degree and above in public health, nurse or any related profession with more than five years of work experience.
v Experience in qualitative surveys (data collection, qualitative data analysis and write up)
v Experience using data to support research efforts and strong levels of data literacy
v Demonstrable ability to write reports or technical materials.
v A clear understanding of the Ethiopian health systems
v Speaking and writing fluency in English and other local languages (Amharic and Oromiffa)
v Good interpersonal communication skills
2. Quantitative data collectors
Required number: 32 (thirty-two)
Place of Work: Dembecha and Lume woredas.
Duration: 21 days
Responsibilities:
· Together with the researcher, develop travel plan
· Conduct facility assessment through interviews with providers and record reviews using mHealth tools
· Conduct household surveys through interview with mothers using mHealth tools
Qualifications and experience:
v Diploma and above in public health, nurse or any public health related profession with more than five years of work experience in health facilities and above.
v A clear understanding of the Ethiopian health systems
v Speaking and writing fluency in English and other local languages (Amharic and Oromiffa)
v Experience in health facility and household surveys using mobile-based data collection tools
v Good interpersonal communication skills
