Job Purpose
The main purpose of the job is to oversee the proper coordination of Emergency Nutrition and WASH Response. S/he is responsible to discharge technical services relating to overall project Planning, implementation and coordination. Support Woreda level government health staff and IRE nutrition and WASH team for the smooth and accurate running of the CMAM program and WASH through planning, capacity building and supervision following the national protocol. To provide operational guidance to project staff member, and to strengthen IR Ethiopia (IRE) Emergency Nutrition and WASH project and administrative systems in compliance with IR policy and procedures.
Task & ResponsibilitiesObjective 1: Team management
Activities:
· Draw up a planning, implementation and coordinator of the work involved for each post;
· Organize regularly evaluation meetings of team members;
· Organize training courses;
· Organize monthly meetings with the team and report the outcome to Area Operation Manager
· Keep an updated register of the staff (absences, overtime);
· Supervise the daily, weekly and monthly reports of the team;
· If there is a problem, find out what is wrong and find a solution or else contact Area Operation manager for managerial issues
· In case of a conflict between team members try to mediate and refer to Areal Operation Manager in need;
· Check the way in which the team interacts with the beneficiaries and those accompanying them.
· Ensure good coordination and collaboration with other nutrition and WASH team members and support departments.
· Evaluate and update project needs (HR, financing, logistics)
Objective 2: Support government health staff to manage and supervise the nutrition centres (OTP, SC and TSFP) including Family MUAC
Activities:
· Makes sure that CMAM program is implemented according to the new National protocol
· Follow-up of distribution, management and consumption of systematic treatment, therapeutic food and NFI
· Makes sure that the HEWs, IRE nutrition team have adequate training on the management of acute malnutrition per National manual including Family MUAC
· Plan and implement Family MUAC in the intervention woreda
· Identify training gaps in the woreda
· Plan on-the-job and refresher trainings according to the weaknesses identified
· Adapt training material according to the identified needs
· Provides technical support and training where required to all team members including HEWs in collaboration with woreda health office,
· Analyze the nutritional and WASH situation;
· Compile the statistical data and draft a report on activities.
· Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products and drugs for program implementation
Objective 3: Nutrition and WASH supplies and stock management
Activities:
· Checking that all the supplies are listed in the register
· Participate in the follow-up of supplies consumption and orders
· Ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for the functioning of SFP and OTP/SC (weekly, monthly or quarterly)
· Make monthly physical inventory of all nutrition and WASH supplies
Objective 4: Data management, reporting and program
Development;
· Ensure proper recording of the information related to the implementation of the CMAM + IYCF program in the nutrition centers including care practices, appetite test, health and nutrition education and home-visiting
· Report on activities on a regular basis through organization’s format and
· Updating the Area Operation Manager on the status of the program and performance of the staff
Objective 5: Represent the organization in relation with the
Project to the local authorities and other partners:
Activities:
· IRE representation for Nutrition and WASH activities in related forums and meetings
· Present the project to the various local partners ;
· Liaise with the authorities, committees and other beneficiaries
· Upholds the image and values of IRE at all times,
Additional responsibilities
- This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task
- Inform the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and WASH program Coordinator of any professional problems encountered
- Conduct all duties in a professional manner following Islamic Relief staff regulations and charter
- Ability to handle multiple tasks on an on-going basis, and adapt to a shift or change in priorities, including the ability to work a flexible work schedule as needed to meet deliverable deadlines
- Organize training courses
- Draft agendas and record minutes of meetings and answer office correspondence
Job Requirements:
- Qualification and Skills Required
Essential:
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce project reports
- Ability to plan and organize work independently with appropriate follow through while paying close attention to detail and show initiative in completing tasks and projects in a timely manner
- Ability to read and abstract information from a variety of formats
- Supervisory and managerial skills with proven ability to manage a demanding workload
- Training provision and teamwork abilities
- Programme experience in the field of nutrition/health is advantageous
- Previous experience working for NGOs an asset
Desirable:
- A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Nutrition, Public Health or relevant field with at least 3 years of practical work experience in humanitarian operation and preferably Master’s Degree with 1 year experience
- Computer literate, especially MS Word and Excel
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English languages; and local languages (Somali) is compulsory
- Familiarity with program area is highly desired
