The Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia was founded in 1989 G.C. by Dr. Belay Abegaz and fellow Ethiopians. Since the establishment, the founders with key donors were able to save more than 9,500 children with free open-heart surgery.
The idea of establishing The Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia was conceived in Dr. Belay Abegaz’s (Founder) mind while he was following his specialty training in the USA. After his return to Ethiopia, he shared the idea of establishing a cardiac hospital for children with those who he felt had a good heart and would have a passion to support such a project.
Then CHFE was then established in 1989 G.C. as a non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization committed to helping children with cardiac diseases. The hospital does not charge and still not charging for any of its services.
