Description

Ärzte der Welt / Doctors of the World / Médecins Du Monde is a network of 16 humanitarian Non- Governmental organizations, working in health and medical aid in domestic and international projects. The focus lies on ensuring access to primary healthcare services, SRH / MCH services (incl. GBV) and psychosocial support. Furthermore, MdM is advocating for a universal access and rights to health services, especially for disadvantaged groups and people affected by crises and conflicts.

MdM has been working in Ethiopia since 1986, implementing different types of programmes from long- term interventions to emergency response. The current project in the Somali region by MdMGe is aiming to improve the access to and the quality of health care services (with a focus on sexual and reproductive health) and prevention of epidemics (incl. Covid-19) for the conflict and crisis affected population in two areas of the Region (Gerbo, Nogob Zone / Qoloji IDP Camp/ Fafaan Zone). Particular attention will be paid to the needs of women and girls by improving the access to SRH services, including GBV. Nutrition and WASH are integrated in this multi-sectoral approach and carried out by the local organisation OWDA (Organisation for Welfare and Development in Action).

JOB TASKS

Provision of support to the HC:

  • Mentor the government health staff in the provision of MCH services (ANC, PNC, Family Panning, Comprehensive Abortion Care; and delivery ) and implement quality training and follow up based on national standards and guidelines;
  • Assess the priority gaps and develop an action plan
  • Train the staff on infection prevention and control (IPC)
  • Support the provision compassionate and respectful care at the HC.
  • Support for the establishment of GBV services in the HC and ensure all GBV survivors receive appropriate clinical management
  • Demonstrate behavior that upholds the public trust in the services provided.

Implementation of health education sessions:

  • Establish mother-to-mother support groups and facilitate timely meetings.
  • Organize health education sessions for the patients and the community.
  • Conduct outreach sensitization sessions in coordination with the Community Mobilizer.
  • Facilitate for the development and production of main messages about maternal health education that includes: – immunization, antenatal care, post-natal care, assisted delivery, family planning, at- risk pregnancies, GBV and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF).

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Compile monthly project activities report and submit to the Program Coordinator.
  • Conduct analysis and reporting on maternal and neonatal deaths occurring at the HC.

Job Requirements

PROFILE REQUIRED:

  • Degree in Midwifery
  • At least 2 years’ experience in planning and implementation of MCH activities
  • Experience in GBV service provision
  • Strong organizational skills in emergency situations and autonomous in daily operations
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Good communication skills in English -writing and speaking
  • Fully fluent in Microsoft WordExceland PowerPoint
  • Showing flexibility, reactivity, anticipation, adaptability.
  • Capacity to work and to live in a remote and isolated area
  • Can speak and communicate with Somali language
